During the appointment, we will check on the fit of your current saddle after examining your horse’s back for soreness, lumps or bumps. Your current saddle will be assessed for ‘soundness’ as well as a fit on the horse. Adjustments (change of gullet, flocking) can be done on site depending on the extend of the work as well as time availability due to next appointment.
Template will be taken of your horse’s back and kept for future reference. We would always prefer to see the assessed saddle ridden at walk, trot and canter.
A saddle fitting appointment usually takes 60 to 90 minutes so allow plenty of time.
What we need you to do before the appointment:
- Be prepared to ride.
- Your horse should be reasonably clean and ready wearing headcollar and lead..
- Identify flat surface where the horse can be examined.
- Have your saddle, bridle, stirrups and all saddle pads you normally use available for examination. Please have your half pads (ideally with adjustable shim pockets on hand if you own any).
The aim of the appointment is to assess your current saddle(s) and make adjustments ensuring the best possible fit for the horse as well as the rider. If your current saddle is deemed not suitable for your horse, we will provide recommendations in terms of brand/model/size that have better potential to fit and assist with sourcing.
